Abstract
Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a life-threatening infection affecting fascias and subcutaneous soft tissues. Because the process begins in the deep subcutaneous tissue and fascia, and common clinical symptoms and signs are similar to cellulitis, early clinical diagnosis may be difficult. Early diagnosis and prompt surgical intervention are crucial for a successful outcome in the patients with NF. NF is associated with various conditions and predisposing factors which can aggravate or mask it. We present a case of extensive NF in the hip and thigh presenting severe hip pain without typical cutaneous symptoms and signs due to multiple predisposing factors such as diabetic foot ulcer and rheumatoid arthritis, which made the delayed diagnosis of extensive NF, and the patient expired despite prompt surgical intervention.
